Kidney Tumours

چکیده
Introduction A variety of benign and malignant tumours can arise in the kidney in children. With minor variations, the spectrum of tumours has worldwide distribution. Wilms’ tumour (WT; also known as nephroblastoma) is the most common kidney tumour in childhood, and may represent the most common abdominal tumour presenting in infants and children in sub-Saharan Africa. In the past decade, considerable advances have been made in the management and elucidation of the molecular biology of Wilms’ tumour. Multidisciplinary collaboration has led to the formation of cooperative study groups in Europe and North America, and has resulted in standardisation of treatment and a remarkable improvement in the outcome of this tumour.1,2 The treatment of children with WT is considered the paradigm for management of most childhood tumours. In Africa as well as some other developing countries, WT remains a challenge to the oncologist, with a significantly poorer outcome of treatment than in developed countries.3–5 This chapter highlights the demographics, aetiology, and pathology of this typical kidney tumour, followed by a presentation of the diagnosis, treatment, outcome, and challenges in Africa. A brief overview of other tumours of the kidney is also highlighted.

Renal Tumours in Adults with Correlation between Fuhrman Grading and Proliferative Marker
Background: Definite data regarding the incidence and distribution of renal tumours in eastern India is not known. For better management, as it is essential to identify patients with poor prognosis, prognostic factors like stage, nuclear grade and their relationship to molecular markers are also unclear in this region. The purpose of our study was to assess the spectrum of adu...
متن کاملStudy of childhood renal tumours using peroxidase conjugated lectins.
Six peroxidase conjugated lectins were used to compare their ability to bind to formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections of childhood renal tumours (Wilms' tumour, mesoblastic nephroma, renal carcinoma, rhabdoid renal tumour, and bone metastasising renal tumour of childhood (BMRTC) with fetal and normal children's kidney. Lectins were found to be helpful in the differential diagnosis of...
متن کاملPrimary Carcinoid Tumour of the Kidney: A Review of the Literature
Context. Primary renal carcinoid tumours are rare. Their pathogenesis is unknown and the clinical presentation is similar to other renal tumours thus posing diagnostic dilemmas for clinicians. Objectives. To review the literature for case reports of primary renal carcinoids. Methods. Literature was extensively searched for case reports for primary renal carcinoids. Reports of metastatic carcino...
متن کاملThe cytological diagnosis of paediatric renal tumours.
Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is used for preoperative diagnosis of paediatric renal tumours, especially in centres where preoperative chemotherapy is advocated in Wilms' tumour. This review focuses on salient cytological features in specific paediatric renal tumours, the approach to resolving a differential diagnosis and the role of ancillary methods in diagnosis of paediatric renal t...
متن کاملUrogenital tumours in childhood
The commonest urogenital tumours in childhood are Wilms tumour of the kidney and rhabdomyosarcoma in the pelvis. We review these tumours along with other primary renal tumours and less common ovarian and testicular tumours in childhood. Current clinical concepts, relevant staging investigations and imaging features are described.
متن کاملFour bilateral synchronous benign and malignant kidney tumours: a case report.
UNLABELLED Synchronous occurrence of benign and malignant kidney tumours is very rare. We present the case of a 63-year-old female patient who underwent a bilateral partial nephrectomy after being diagnosed with bilateral kidney tumours by ultrasonography and a computed tomography scan. Histopathological analysis of the left kidney tumour mass revealed a chromophobe renal cell carcinoma. In the...
